The Community Protection and Prevention Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, in collaboration with the Law Respect Culture Office at the Ministry of Interior, recently held an awareness lecture titled The Law Respect Culture and the Social Media Risks. The event took place at James Westminster School with the participation of Colonel Dr. Nasser Mohammed Al Bakr, Director of the Department, alongside other officers, school faculty, staff, and a large group of students.
Colonel Dr. Al Bakr highlighted that this lecture is part of the Community Coexistence Initiative, launched by the Law Respect Culture Office, which aims to promote awareness about the UAE’s laws and regulations, encouraging respect for them across all societal groups. The lecture addressed the importance of understanding laws that govern social media use, helping attendees become aware of their rights and responsibilities to avoid legal issues or risks associated with misuse.
Captain Issa Mohammed Al Kaabi, from the Law Respect Culture Office, led the lecture and focused on four main themes. He emphasized that respect for the law is a fundamental element of civilized behavior, underpinned by principles such as mutual respect, awareness of rights and duties, adherence to positive customs and traditions, and a commitment to good morals and responsibility. He explained how certain actions, if left unchecked, could lead to serious offenses such as theft, harassment, or spreading false information, all of which laws and regulations are designed to prevent.
Captain Al Kaabi also addressed the specific responsibilities tied to social media, noting that while it offers positives like quick information sharing and connectivity, it also presents risks such as time waste, privacy violations, and potential legal infractions. He reminded attendees that ignorance of the law is no excuse and encouraged everyone to respect and uphold both legal and ethical standards online. The event concluded with Colonel Dr. Al Bakr presenting a token of appreciation to the school for hosting the lecture, as well as to Captain Al Kaabi for his efforts in educating the audience.
