Ras Al Khaimah Police Apprehend Masked Thief and Social Media Video Distributor

The Ras Al Khaimah Police, under the leadership of His Excellency Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, successfully apprehended a masked thief and the individual responsible for distributing related videos on social media. His Excellency commended the dedication of the General Directorate of Police Operations, whose vigilance led to the swift arrest of the thief, an Asian national in his thirties, who had been targeting vehicles to steal their contents. Major General Al Nuaimi reaffirmed the commitment of the Ras Al Khaimah Police to protect the safety and security of the community, citizens, residents, and their property against any unlawful acts.

The incident was managed by the Criminal Investigation Department of the General Directorate of Police Operations, who swiftly identified and detained the masked thief. This individual, having committed multiple thefts from vehicles in various areas across the emirate, broke windows and wore a mask to obscure his identity. Brigadier Dr. Tariq Mohammed bin Saif, Director General of Police Operations, explained that the police received multiple reports of vehicle thefts where the suspect would break a window and take valuable contents. During this time, videos and photos of the damaged vehicles circulated on social media. In response, a specialized team from the Criminal Investigation Department was assembled, a comprehensive plan was implemented, and evidence was gathered, enabling them to track and identify the suspect, ultimately leading to his arrest and the recovery of the stolen items.

During the investigation, the suspect confessed to breaking vehicle windows and stealing their contents. He has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal proceedings. Additionally, the person responsible for publishing and promoting videos and photos of the stolen vehicles on social media was also arrested and is now facing legal action. Ras Al Khaimah Police urges the public to refrain from sharing such content, as it can hinder investigations and allow perpetrators to evade law enforcement.

Article 52 of the UAE's Anti-Rumors and Cybercrimes Law stipulates that anyone who uses the information network or any technological means to broadcast, publish, republish, circulate, or recirculate false news, data, reports, or misleading information that contradicts official announcements, incites public opinion, disturbs public security, spreads fear, or harms the public interest, economy, order, or health, is subject to a minimum one-year imprisonment and a fine of at least 100,000 dirhams.
