As part of its efforts to maintain public safety and uphold social values, the Ras Al Khaimah Police General Command has arrested 51 beggars, 34 were males and 17 females, since the beginning of Ramadan. The arrests were made under the ongoing campaign titled "Fight Begging and Help Those in Need", launched by the Media and Public Relations Department in cooperation with the Criminal Investigation Department.
Ras Al Khaimah Police noted that Ramadan is a time when acts of charity increase, which unfortunately creates opportunities for individuals with ill intent to exploit public generosity through begging. The campaign aims to raise awareness about this negative phenomenon and urges the public to direct their donations through officially recognized charitable organizations to ensure that aid reaches those who are truly in need.
Authorities emphasized that begging is a harmful and socially unacceptable practice that distorts the country’s civilized image. It is often linked to criminal behavior, including theft and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals such as children and the sick, for financial gain.
The police called on all members of the community to cooperate with law enforcement in combating the spread of begging, and to refrain from giving money to beggars. The public is encouraged to report any suspected cases of begging by calling the non-emergency number 901.
Ras Al Khaimah Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the community and promoting charitable giving through proper and ethical channels.
