The Ras Al Khaimah Police General Command has kicked off its summer awareness initiative, "Let's Protect Them from Drowning," to prevent drowning incidents. This program is particularly timely with the summer season's arrival and the increased number of families and community members visiting beaches and swimming pools for leisure.
His Excellency Colonel Hamad Abdullah Al Awadhi, Director of the Department of Media and Public Relations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, emphasized that the program aims to heighten public awareness about the procedures and precautionary measures to prevent drowning, especially among young children. He urged parents to closely supervise their children at beaches and teach them basic swimming skills. He also recommended providing children with life jackets, collars, and all necessary safety and drowning prevention tools. Beachgoers were advised not to swim in areas not designated for swimming and to follow the instructions on information signs at pools and beaches to ensure their safety.
Major Saeed Al-Musaferi, Manager of the Awareness and Media Campaigns Branch at Ras Al Khaimah Police, added that the General Command is dedicated to raising awareness among the public and beachgoers about the importance of caution when visiting beaches and swimming pools. He stressed the need to meet all safety requirements before swimming, including training in swimming proficiency, having survival and first aid tools, and knowing how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Major Al-Musaferi also highlighted the importance of promptly reporting emergencies by calling the Ras Al Khaimah Police emergency number 999 to receive necessary support and rescue. He wished everyone a happy and safe time at swimming pools and beaches, free from the dangers of drowning
